Elect Larry Rovey, Kevin Johnson, Chris Dobson, Wendy Marshall, Tyler Francis, Ron Kolb & Cliff Leatherwood

SRP Board & Council Election Tuesday, April 7, 2020

SRP’s District 1 encompasses Peoria, and part of Glendale (SRP map). This SRP election cycle eligible SRP voters will be able to elect 7 representatives in this district – 2 board members, and 3 council members. 2 at-large board members will also be elected by district 1 voters, and voters from across the 10 districts in the valley.

When Voting Happens

SRP’s Board & Council Election is a special election, requiring a special ballot request to receive a ballot by mail (if you ask to be added to the ‘permanent voter list’ you’ll receive a ballot every SRP election). Voting may also be done in person, if you are a qualified voter, (see SRP’s infographic). You won’t find a harder working group of community servants than Larry Rovey, Kevin Johnson, Chris Dobson, Wendy Marshall, Tyler Francis, Ron Kolb, and Cliff Leatherwood. Our top priority is you, the SRP customer and shareholder, regardless if you are a constituent in SRP’s district 1, or not. We want to ‘Keep the Flow’ of SRP’s irrigation water, and reliable, affordable electricity.

Tyler Francis is a valley farmer, and SRP Councilman, on why it is important for Phoenix area SRP customers to vote in SRP’s Elections. SRP, also known as Salt River Project, is a public electric utility and a private water company, with elected SRP boards and SRP councils. These elected SRP officials represent all customers with a variety of tasks, including setting rates, the issuance of bonds, and oversight of day-to-day operations of the companies. Here is information on how SRP customers, as SRP shareholders, may request mail-in ballots for elections, held every two years on the first Tuesday in April.

Affordable Power

Electrics rates declined 2.2% on average in the last Board rate pricing process. We plan to keep the trend of slim rate increases over the long haul. This is accomplished by using a methodical approach to adding large scale solar + batteries to SRP’s fleet, using sound financial practices (resulting in SRP paying some of the lowest bond rates in the market), and adding additional low-cost natural gas power plants to the fleet.

Neighborhood Irrigation

The SRP canal and irrigation system must maintained in perpetuity. It’s imperative that the board continue support for water services. It’s not only the board’s legal obligation, but the right choice for Arizona’s economy. Also, by supporting agricultural and neighborhood private irrigation systems with first-in-class customer support. We must continue my endeavor of promoting the formation of neighborhood irrigation delivery districts. These districts allow neighborhoods to operate their systems without fail, and financial burden.

Renewable Solutions

We support the integration of low cost, large scale solar and battery storage projects, because they are clean, easy to run, and lower in price than most traditional forms of electric generation on the market today. But, remember, this endeavor is a marathon, and not a sprint. We are in favor of a measured strategy that onboards new renewables in sync with off-boarding coal fired generation over the next 15 years. So, that rate payers, like you, will not be paying higher electric rates due to charges against stranded costs.
